Dr. Lara Coughlin

Dr. Lara Coughlin is a nationally recognized leader in the field of contingency management and behavioral treatments for substance use disorders. A clinical psychologist and assistant professor at the University of Michigan Addiction Center, her work focuses on developing and scaling evidence-based interventions that use behavioral economic principles—especially incentives—to promote recovery. She has led pioneering studies on how contingency management can be applied to underserved populations and real-world treatment settings. As a faculty lead in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Eisenberg Family Depression Center, Dr. Coughlin combines scientific rigor with a commitment to expanding access to effective, equitable care.
